Ways To Drink Your Favorite Beverages Without Staining Your Teeth
Posted on 5/15/2020 by Everwell Dentistry |
Some of our favorite drinks, such as coffee, tea, or wine, can stain our teeth. Rather than give them up to keep your teeth looking white and fabulous, you can take some steps to help reduce the chances of them staining.
Common Drinks That Cause Teeth To Stain
The first three that often come to mind when we consider teeth staining, are coffee, tea, and wine. There are actually many acidic foods and drinks that can lead to tooth discoloration, such as sodas, juices, and sugary sweets. If you aren't sure about a certain food or drink, and want to know if it has staining potential, feel free to call, or ask at your next appointment in our office, and we can answer all of your questions. It is best to use some preventative methods any time you eat or drink, to give your teeth the best chance at not discoloring.
A Few Tricks To Help Prevent Staining
When drinking a cold beverage, such as soda or certain juices, a straw can help prevent the soda from flowing directly onto your teeth. The liquid will at least bypass your front teeth, which is a benefit for your smile. In the same ways, a lid created for hot beverages, such as hot cocoa, tea, and coffee, will have the same effect. After any meal or drink, it can be helpful to drink some clear water, and if possible, swish it around to rinse your teeth. This will keep those acids from sitting on your teeth and staining. And of course, brushing your teeth as soon as possible after eating and drinking is a great habit in the prevention of teeth staining.
