Jaw Pain Can Come from an Infected Salivary Gland

Posted on 10/15/2019 by Everwell Dentistry
Jaw Pain Can Come from an Infected Salivary Gland When you are experiencing jaw pain, it can be difficult to establish whether you are suffering from TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder or salivary gland infection. As a matter of fact, jaw pain from both conditions may show up when you are having your meals, because of jaw muscle action during eating and saliva flow. Because it's difficult to differentiate between these two conditions, we highly encourage you to pay us a visit if you are suffering from jaw pains. We will run a series of tests to establish the exact condition that you may be suffering from.

Salivary Gland Problems

One of the most common problems with your salivary gland is infection from viruses or bacteria. Bacterial or viral infection may affect any of your salivary glands. This in turn means that you may experience pain on any regions of your jaw. Pain resulting from salivary gland problems might mimic TMJ complications, especially if you are struggling to open your jaws or you are experiencing pain when opening your jaws. Swelling will always occur in both conditions, though chances are that the pain will be more localized if you are suffering from salivary gland infections. Symptoms that are likely to distinguish infection of the salivary gland to TMJ include pus within your mouth, dry mouth or a strange taste in the mouth. On top of that, you should also watch out for other signs, including constant chills and fever.

What to Do

If you are suffering from jaw pain, we advise you to visit us as soon as possible so that we may be able to treat the underlying issue before it worsens. We will conduct a series of medical examination to point out the exact condition that you are suffering from.
The first step to a healthy beautiful smile is to schedule an appointment.
