Why Some Tooth Pain Comes on so Suddenly

Why Some Tooth Pain Comes on so SuddenlyHave you ever felt fine one moment and then suddenly have major tooth pain? Often, tooth pain seems to come on overnight. There are a few things that can cause pain to come on very suddenly. Let's take a look at some of them so you can at least know why you hurt.

You Bit Down on Something Hard

Chances are, if your tooth pain comes from biting into something hard, you're going to realize it right away. Sometimes, the most innocent and unsuspecting food can cause you pain if you bite into it in just the right way with a tooth that's already weakened or damaged. If you know you have a problematic tooth and haven't had time to come see us yet, do your best to avoid chewing with that side of your mouth.

You're Sensitive to Heat or Cold

Another cause that's fairly obvious is experiencing sudden pain after drinking something hot or cold. Sensitive teeth can be affected by one or both extreme temperatures. If it seems like hot or cold drinks affect you, do your best to avoid them until you can book an appointment with us.

Your Sinuses Are to Blame

Sometimes, tooth pain actually has nothing to do with your teeth. If you're suffering from fairly sudden tooth pain, but can't pinpoint a problem with your teeth, it could be because of a sinus infection. Inflamed sinuses can push on the roots of certain teeth, making them hurt.

You're Stressed

When some people get stressed, they start to grind their teeth and clench their jaw. You may not even realize you're doing this, especially if you grind your teeth while you sleep. When you wake up after a night of grinding, it can seem like your tooth pain came on without any warning.

Any time you experience pain in your teeth, gums, or mouth, call us and set up an appointment. It may be something fairly minor, but it could be a major issue that needs to be cared for.
The first step to a healthy beautiful smile is to schedule an appointment.
