What Happens if a Tooth with a Crown Begins to Hurt?

Posted on 5/10/2018 by Everwell Dentistry
Dental Crown Everwell Dentistry MI 48104Do you have teeth with crowns in your mouth? They are commonly placed when you have root canals or a tooth that cracks or breaks. If the tooth beneath the crown begins to hurt, it is likely that there is some type of a cavity or infection down near the root of your tooth or the surrounding gum tissue.

Just because it feels like the tooth itself hurts, does not mean it could not simply be a problem with your gums causing all the fuss. It needs to be examined prior to deciding what to do next.

Getting a Tooth with a Crown Checked Out

If a tooth that has a crown on it starts to hurt, we suggest that the first thing you do is call us. Let us know what the pain feels like, and where the pain is. We will then schedule a time for you to come in so we can take a peek.

Once you get here, we will examine the tooth that hurts and all of the tissue around it. This should give us an idea of what is going on. However, if we cannot see anything, we will then take an x-ray. This will show us if there is any type of an infection or cavity within the tooth causing your pain.

If we are unable to see you right away, make sure you take acetaminophen or ibuprofen on a schedule until you can get here.

By keeping a constant stream of medication in your system until your appointment, it should take the pain down. Don't be afraid to call us if any part of your mouth hurts. We are here, ready and able to help you get past that pain and get on with your life.
The first step to a healthy beautiful smile is to schedule an appointment.
