Gum Disease Everwell Dentistry MI 48104Did you know that in order for you to protect your brain, you should brush your teeth? Sound odd and ridiculous? Absolutely not! This is because your oral health plays a very important in your overall health.

Let us start by simply stating that good oral health does not just simply provide a healthy smile, but can also provide a healthy body or at least lowers the risk of getting health problems. Therefore, if you have dental problems, you can also get other health problems.

Dental problems do not just stop in cavities and tooth decay, but dental problems also extend to gum diseases which includes gingivitis and the chronic gum infection periodontitis. These gum diseases can also increase the risk of other serious medical problems such as diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and even brain deterioration!

Gum Diseases and Brain Deterioration

Yes, there are links between gum disease and brain deterioration. Because dental health is integrated to brain health, it may not be a shocker anymore that gum disease and some brain problems can be associated.

Brain deterioration includes brain damage and Alzheimer's disease. Your brain will start to deteriorate as you age and there are times that gum diseases can help in quickly deteriorating the brain.

Researchers found out that people with high levels of infectious bacteria caused by gum disease have difficulties in performing simple brain activities, thus affecting brain deterioration. These inflammation and infections brought by gum diseases in the oral cavity can affect the whole system of the body, targeting the brain first.

Prevention is Better than A Cure

Protect your mental health by protecting your oral health. Gum diseases are treatable, but that does not mean that you cannot prevent it.

Always remember to brush and floss your teeth regularly. Brushing is your first line of defense against bacteria and infections, so you may want to take care of your toothbrush as well. Be wary about the signs of gum diseases, which include bleeding, swelling, bad breath, and tooth loss.

Better yet, visit us today! We can help you battle and prevent gum diseases.

The first step to a healthy beautiful smile is to schedule an appointment.
